Inspiring tale

The relation between US and Cuba, the cold war era enemies is entering a new level with the visit of President Barack Obama to Cuba. Obama will embark on a historic 3-day visit to Cuba today which is expected to open a new era in the relationship between the two countries. Mr Obama, who will be the first US president to visit Cuba in 88 years, will hold talks with his counterpart Raul Castro tomorrow, followed by a joint press event and a state dinner. The visiting President will meet with Cuban dissidents on Tuesday.

This visit assumes immense significance as Cuba is the last few remaining communist countries which continued to be hostile towards US. The relation between two countries reached to lowest level during Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1962 there was a 13 day standoff between United States and Soviet Union after USSR deployed ballistic missiles in Cuba. It was the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. Since then hostilities between Cuba and US have only grew.  However ever since Raul Castro took over the rein of Cuba from his elder brother Fidel Castro, he has tried to improve the relation with US.  Castro and Obama meet on couple of occasions which helped to thaw the relation. Last year secretary of state John Kerry visited Cuba and reopened US embassy in Havana after gap of 54 year.  With the visit of President Obama, the US-Cuban relation is entering a new era. Though there will be difficulties ahead but two countries deserve appreciation for keeping aside their differences and trying to improve the relation. The story of Cuba-US will definitely inspire the rest of the world.

Joint patrolling, intelligence sharing could reduce wildlife trafficking

Gibbons are an endangered species of ape distributed in SW China, NE India, Bangladesh and SE Asia. One of the species, Hoolock gibbons are found in all the NE states of India and adjoining Bangladesh and Myanmar. Two sub species are known from the region: Eastern and Western Hoolock gibbons. The species have been impacted severely by anthropogenic pressures in both India, Bangladesh and Myanmar and are in need of urgent conservation. Myanmar has another spices reported known as Lar gibbons in addition to Hoolock gibbons. Due to adjacent forests across the border of India, Bangladesh and Myanmar; a joint conservation effort by these three countries could effectively help in successful conservation of these two species. Joint patrolling of borders could effectively reduce wildlife trafficking and poaching as well as intelligence sharing by border security agencies can successfully reduce poaching and other illegal activities along remote international border areas.

Dear Editor,

Unemployed youth do not understand the logic behind the CoSAAP’s demand for increase in retirement age when so many young and energetic youths are without any jobs. Do you want to see them in distress?

We also hope that cancellation of functional, officiating and out of turn promotion order given by governor will be respected.  

We hope this order of government will be implemented soon. All we want is a chance to serve our state at our capacities.

Waiting for notification

Dear Editor,

Through your esteem daily, I would like to know when Department of Textile and Handicrafts will notify the date for written exam for various Group B gazetted posts.

The unemployed youths are eagerly waiting for the notification.

In the mean time, I as an applicant request the department to make free and fair selection so that efforts of poor and hardworking candidates don’t go in vain.

Finish the recruitment process

Dear Editor,

Through esteemed daily I would like to draw the kind attention of PWD towards the delay in declaring the result of JE.

Exam was conducted in October and it is almost 6 months and we are still waiting for the result. Why PWD is taking this much time when Hydro Power Department can declare and finish the recruitment process within less than 3 month.  Learn something from them.

I request the PWD Department to declare the result quickly.

Clarification on Taksing MHS

Dear Editor,

In response to an letter published on March 19, regarding status of the Taksing MHS, I am to inform all concern that 80% of the said project has been completed.  

Intake weir, intake tank, feeder channel, de-silting tank, power channel, forebay tank, spillway, power house building, machine foundation, tail race channel and 3 men bachelor barrack including the procurement of penstock pipe and electro mechanical components (carried out by E&M counterpart).  The only work that now remains is Air lifting of penstock pipes and E&M machines and equipment to the project site and their installation for which the department is pursuing the department of Civil aviation for arrangement of Air-sortie, as head-load of these materials is out of question.  It is thus, very wrong to say that 80% of the work is incomplete whereas in truth 80% of the work has actually been completed. Once the Penstock pipes and E&M machines are airlifted to the project site, the project would be completed in all respect including the 12mtr power channel that was damaged due to landslide which hopefully, would be within the next financial year i.e. 2016-17.

Appeal to the AP Public Service Commission

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the kind attention of Chairman, Secretary and honourable Members of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission towards the pitiable condition of the candidates who appeared interview for the post of Assistant Professor, Department of Economics for Government Colleges of Arunachal Pradesh on 30th September 2014.

We are desperately waiting for the result to get declared which is kept in sealed cover in pursuance of interim order dated 14/7 /2014 and 17/7/2O14 in WP(c) No. 433(AP)/20L3 and WP(C) No. 797(AP)/2014. It is informed that the private party has already submitted surrender letter to the commission in the month of May, 2015.

However, the commission has failed to dispose of the case till now. This is not only hampering the selected candidates to get employed but also blocking the employment opportunities for the unemployed eligible candidates.

We do not understand why they took so much of time in final disposal of the case when the respondent has already surrendered. If it is due to the weakness of the APPSC advocate, we request the commission to hire new advocate and dispose of the case as early as possible.

Lastly, it is our sincere request to the commission to please feel the pain of the unemployed candidates and look into the matter seriously.

We also request the newly appointed Chief Minister and Education Minister to look into the problem and expedite the process for the final disposal of case.

Give a chance to merit

Dear Editor,

I am a Post graduate unemployed youth of this state and for your kind information there are more than thousands of like me in the state. When we were students, we dreamt of holding some position in our respective chosen fields and we did everything to bring it in reality.

We study day and night for graduation and PG to prepare ourselves for competitive exams.  But the situation and corrupt people in every department of the state wouldn’t allow us to go through.

I would ask the Chief Minister what steps he will take to stop such activities? How will a poor and hardworking candidate with no political and financial background will get justice?

I am reading about your works everyday in the paper and I know you have a great vision for our state and I believe you will definitely bring change. Everybody in the state is expecting a lot from you.

If you don’t do anything to stop this corruption in recruitment process in the state then iam afraid to say that colleges and universities will not produce learned person every year rather they will produce learned terrorist because there is a limit for toleration.

Therefore, I on behalf of all the desperate and  deserving unemployed youth of the state request you to save our future and create a suitable environment for the generation to come. We are counting on CM.

Salutations to the triumphant RFO and his team

Dear Editor,

Amidst the daily dose of dramatic political turn of events, a report in Arunachal Times of 1st Feb. 2016 issue which caught my attention was the head line, ‘Forest officer refuses to accept medal.’

The report highlighted how Neeraj Tamuk, Range Forest Officer (RFO) of Mebo Forest Range under Pasighat Forest Division, East Siang conducted night long operation in the isolated deep jungles of Chowkam in Namsai to nab criminals, poachers and rescued wild elephant calves on 6th Feb. 2015 thus carving his name in the history of the State to be the first Forest Officer to rescue and retrieve any pachyderm from the jaws of poachers.

Truly his selfless and suicidal determination in busting the Inter State poaching network, which is a menace to the conservation of endangered species of wild life, worth more than verbal appreciations and few commendation letters. The highly motivated Officer’s determination and action armed with limited backup and logistic support to combat and capture the anti social elements with likely superior weapons in the cold, hostile, treacherous and outlandish ambience was an exceptional tour de force, considering the area of the operation in fact believed to be infested with elements viewed to be extreme and ruthless, mere thought of encountering such element sends a chill down the spine of the bravest of the braves.

Such operations demand perfect coordination and precise clock work, unthinkable without proper communication system, which was not made available to the valorous RFO’s team.

To add to their woes the team had to crisscross waist deep streams with their boots on in the pitch dark and chilly winter night to reach where the criminals camped. Such odds failed to deter the Officer from his assignment. Shear instinct and motivation was his guiding force for accomplishing the dangerous feat of taking on the dreaded law breakers by surprise.

As any lax government official he could have opted out from following the case citing any lame account and cede the life risking responsibility to an officer of the concerned area or division and took an easy exit to save his skin as the area of action was out of his official jurisdiction had he been chickenhearted, this speak tons about his high degree of motivation, bravery and commitment to his duty.

The success of the operation resultantly brought down the illegal logging and poaching activities in the large part of the area drastically. Criminals involved in destruction of valuable and irreversible forest wealth thereby disturbing the ecosystem are a threat to the globe itself.

As such Officer Neeraj Tamuk has inestimably served more like an agent in safeguarding the biodiversity in this ‘United Nations Decade of Biodiversity’ 2011-2020. Awarding such Officer with due honor will go a long way in inspiring upcoming youngsters to serve with selfless dedication. My salutations to the triumphant RFO and his team.
